The National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance — a federation of LGBTQ Asian American, South Asian, Southeast Asian, and Pacific Islander groups — has produced a voter guide to the New York State governor and US Senate races.
The guide, available here, is printed in English, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Hindi and surveys the policy positions of incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo and his challenger, Republican Marc Molinaro, and incumbent Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and her challenger, the GOP’s Chele Farley, on issues including LGBTQ equality, justice for the transgender community, racial justice, immigrant rights, health justice, and worker justice.
The guide notes that the Asian American Legal Defense & Education Fund will be monitoring poll sites to protect the rights of everyone to vote, and that anyone who experiences problems or witnesses irregularities when they go to vote can contact AALDEF’s multilingual hotline at 800-966-5946.
According to the NQAPIA, nationwide there are about 9.8 million Asian American and Pacific Islander citizens eligible to vote this year, up from 8 million in 2012. Besides New York, the group has also produced voter guides in nine other states, including New Jersey.
The midterm elections are this Tuesday, November 6.
