BY PAUL SCHINDLER | Bob Zuckerman, an out gay hopeful for the 39th District City Council seat in Brooklyn that will be vacant in the 2009 election, got support from local politicos and some citywide LGBT leaders at a fundraising barbeque at Cattyshack, the popular lesbian club on Fourth Avenue in Park Slope, on June 28.
Zuckerman hopes to succeed Bill de Blasio, who faces term limits, in the seat that represents portions of the Slope, Windsor Terrace, Kensington, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, and Boro Park. Currently the executive director of the Gowanus Canal Community Development Corporation and Gowanus Canal Conservancy, groups working to revitalize a long-stagnant industrial waterway separating the Slope and Carroll Gardens, Zuckerman previously led the Greenwich Village-Chelsea Chamber of Commerce and before that, the New York Nightlife Association, a trade group.
Zuckerman is president of the Independent Neighborhood Democrats, a Brooklyn political club. He lives in Park Slope with his partner of 11 years, Grant Neumann, and their two cats, Ozzie and Willie.
